Token mechanics
How this token works
A COW/vCOW holder submits a valid direct Snapshot ballot, realizing bounded influence over a CoW DAO proposal without locking or delegating the voting tokens.
A holder noncustodially delegates COW/vCOW voting power and an active delegate later submits a valid ballot, realizing the same bounded CoW DAO influence while preserving the holder's custody and direct-vote override.
An address meeting cow.eth's 10,000 aggregate-score validation gate completes the forum and CIP process and publishes a Snapshot proposal, creating formal agenda-setting influence rather than automatic execution.
An existing Ethereum vCOW holder bears permanent nontransferability until actively converting the fully vested legacy claim one-for-one into COW; cutoff backing was sufficient, but conversion remains exposed to transaction and contract risk.
An existing Gnosis vCOW holder bears permanent nontransferability until a one-for-one conversion into bridged COW, with realization additionally dependent on contract inventory because aggregate vCOW supply nominally exceeded cutoff backing.
Protocol fee assets fund systematic weekly COW purchases under the latest explicitly stated 120%-of-solver-emissions operating target; DAO retention and recycling qualify the indirect market-demand effect.
A full independent solver-pool sponsor cedes 1,500,000 COW and 500,000 USD of stable collateral to DAO-controlled custody with governed exit and slashing exposure, enabling that pool to vouch solver addresses for competition.
An eligible solver performs bidding and settlement work to earn weekly performance and consistency COW compensation, without a universal independent-COW-bond prerequisite.
An approved DAO-pool solver builds a staged reduced bond under Solver Payouts Safe custody, accepting growth, exit, slashing, and opportunity-cost constraints in return for control of its driver and submission address while remaining under the DAO pool.
An eligible quote provider competes on accuracy for executed in-market fill-or-kill orders and receives separately budgeted weekly CIP-88 COW compensation.

COW token design at 2026-10-22
COW supports liquid governance, proposal access, legacy conversion custody, indirect treasury purchase demand and specialized solver operations. The model contains 17 occurrences, eight direct edges, ten mechanisms and three Cashflows.
Governance and legacy custody
Direct and delegated Ethereum/Gnosis COW and vCOW balances participate in Snapshot. Signing a ballot [81] activates governance influence [31]; optional delegation [82] is noncustodial and direct voting overrides its copied score. The two mechanisms share the literal ballot and decision. Proposal eligibility [41] requires aggregate strategy score of at least 10,000, followed by the prescribed forum/CIP publication action [83] and agenda-setting influence [32]. Runtime defaults remain seven days and 35 million quorum. The documentation's abstention denominator remains qualified; voting does not itself execute Safe transactions.
Existing Ethereum [71] and Gnosis [72] vCOW is fully vested, but still cannot transfer or approve. Its owner initiates a 1:1 COW conversion. Ethereum backing exceeds outstanding claims by 5,008.341437 COW. Gnosis has a nominal 1,622,117.402945374150006871 COW gap, matched by an allocation balance whose accessibility remains unresolved. Conversion transforms existing principal, with transaction, contract and inventory risk.
Fee-funded purchases
Cashflow [21] is the aggregate indirect demand from systematic weekly COW market purchases financed by protocol fee assets. The latest explicit operating target is 120% of solver COW emissions, rather than a fixed percentage of revenue. Acquired COW remains DAO-controlled and can fund subsequent solver compensation. The mechanism has no pro-rata holder claim, guaranteed price pass-through, or permanent-removal promise. Its effect depends on execution, recycling, concurrent distributions and effective float.
A sampled October 21 settlement delivered 79,358.436897071321915392 COW to the registered buyback recipient for 4.428571428571428571 WETH. A separate Payouts Safe transaction distributed 848,822.623721591667900067 COW through 44 transfers. These dated transaction samples are not a complete program total, a source-allocated reward breakdown, or measured holder profit. The diagram retains native quantities and explicit USD limitations. A common-date mark of historical cumulative COW cannot establish execution spend or current holder income.
