xDAI Supply & Stablecoin Stats
By design, xDAI is a representation of a quantity of DAI locked in the xDAI bridge on the Ethereum Mainnet, as mints and burns are implemented via this bridge. The peg is not hard-guaranteed, as is the case of, e.g., USDT, but it is maintained through the natural market interactions.
Uncommonly among blockchains, Gnosis does not possess a single native token that is also used for gas payment; rather, the native token (GNO) and the gas-payment token (xDAI) are separated by design.
Note that thanks to the interaction with the Representation OoV, the value of xDAI is essentially unaffected by the implemented base fee burning (along the lines of EIP-1559, see this link).
